Scott Carley’s giant pumpkins are not doing well this season…he had 7 and only has 2 left…they are far behind where they were measuring at this time last year…650 pounds right now vs. over 1,000 pounds this time last year…all local growers are experiencing similar challenges…it’s been too cool at night this season…giant pumpkins need heat units at night to grow to their gargantuan size…due to this season’s slower growth I hear many growers have been pushing the limits on their fertilizer/nitrogen to stimulate growth…and due to this I hear many pumpkins have rotted out or cracked…including Scott’s…needless to say there have been many challenges this season…even for my man Scott Carley the #1 Giant Pumpkin Grower in BC!!
